Background
The new Denham visitor information bay (VIB) was well overdue and finally completed in early 2016. In 2014, Wayfound conducted a tourism signage audit for the Shire of Shark Bay and one of our recommendations was to replace the VIB. The previous one was very poor quality, contained very little information for tourists and was primarily made up of local business advertising. In late 2014, a cyclone blew down part of the old structure and the other two sections were demolished soon after.
Solution
Wayfound worked with head contractor Earthcare and the Shire of Shark Bay staff to design the panels for the new visitor information bay. The structure was constructed of timbers salvaged from the old Denham jetty.
We organised the information into three sections:
- Shark Bay – Places of interest & things to do
- Denham Township – Services & facilities
- Shark Bay World Heritage Area – Flora, fauna & history
When we started the design process, we quickly realised that the Shire had no visitor maps. So, we had to gather the data needed to create the three maps needed – for the entire Shark Bay region, the Town of Denham and the World Heritage Conservation Area. These are now available for the Shire to use on all of their tourism marketing material.
Delivery
Wayfound designed and produced the sign panels, which were installed by Earthcare Landscapes.
