Background

In 2010, Northam was bypassed by the Great Eastern Hwy and all of the highway signs were removed. So, visitor numbers to the town have declined. Northam wants to encourage visitors to turn off the highway, see their attractions and spend time and money in the Shire.

They knew they needed to improve signage from the highway and in and around Northam to attract and retain more visitors. They wanted the visitor experience to be enjoyable and stress-free to showcase the town as “open for business”.

Solution

The Shire approached Wayfound to develop a tourism signage strategy to identify the signage needs, requirements and priorities. Wayfound completed an audit of all signage on approach roads, town circulation routes, tourist drives and signage to town tourist attractions. A comprehensive report of findings and recommendations for improvements was delivered. Northam is now able to implement a coherent and consistent approach to signage so they can reach their tourism goals.
