Golden Quest Discovery Trail app

So I don’t want to toot our own horn but we just finished our first App!

Today is the official launch of the Golden Quest Discovery Trail app.

For the last few months we have been working with Neil and Liz from the Goldfields Tourism Network to produce an app that showcases one of Australia’s most popular adventure drive trail located in our own backyard.

The Golden Quest Discovery Trail was launched in 2003. It is nearly 1,000kms in length, has 25 official sites and intimately explores the evolution of Western Australia’s legendary Goldfields.

The trail already had a website and printed guidebooks that were available to purchase. Although to keep up-to-date with technology trends and for ease of updating, an app was the best solution.

The goal of the app was to encourage tourists (and locals) to explore the remote goldfields region, bring more people into the communities, support local business and educate people on the remarkable history of the towns and sites – all at a touch of the finger on their smartphone.

A handy feature in the app is the ability to register your drive for safety purposes. You add in your details, the number of passengers, start and end point, date and emergency contact and with the GPS tracking, the Goldfields Tourism Network will be able to check that you arrived at your end destination.

Other features include:

  • Real-time GPS: track your location on a map at all times.
  • Trail Notes that describes the road journey between each site.
  • Features Stories that are relevant to each site.
  • Four Sectional Trail Maps that detail each section of the trail journey.
  • Services: Find Meal, Accommodation, Shopping, Fuel or Visitor Centres nearby you.
  • Trail Audio files that complement the information at the stopping points along the Trail.

Today in Kalgoorlie is the official launch party, officiated by the Minister for Environment; Disability Services and MLC for Mining and Pastoral, the Honourable Stephen Dawson. Unfortunately we weren’t able to make it to Kalgoorlie this time, but wish all the best for the event.

The app is available to download at both the App Store and Google Play.

We are now working on a similar app for the Wheatbelt Way drive trail. If you would like to find out how an app could help your business or service, please get in touch.
