After completion of the audit Wayfound commenced work developing the Collie Signage Strategy. We broke the project down into each discipline – Hiking, Mountain Biking (MTB), Rail Trails, Road Riding and Gravel Bike riding. We analysed each one for its strengths, weaknesses and made recommendations for improvement.

The Strategy provides the framework for the DBCA Parks & Wildlife and the Shire of Collie (SoC) to make decisions on the location and style of all future adventure trail and tourism signage and wayfinding in the Collie – Wellington region. The Strategy contains clear guidelines for developing a suite of distinctive, innovative and consistent adventure trail tourism signage that supports achievement of DBCA/SoC strategic tourism goals.

The Strategy has a number of objectives which are to:

  1. Improve how visitors are made aware of, and guided to, the diverse trail experiences across the Collie – Wellington region.
  2.  Enhance the visitor experience and the amenity of the community.
  3.  Enhance the image of Collie – Wellington as a tourism destination by encouraging consistent themes and innovate and distinctive signage across the region.

As part of the strategy we developed a signage style guide. This style guide gives direction for choosing the right signage for the particular circumstance, for locating signs and for further development of signage policies and processes.

The Collie Signage Strategy and Signage Style Guide has now been accepted  DBCA and endorsed by Shire of Collie and its stakeholders.

Wayfound were contracted by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to complete a Wayfinding Strategy and sign style guide for Collie and surrounds with a focus on providing consistent and conforming signs for trails and attractions.

Wayfound staff (Kim and Andre) quickly grasped the brief and were able to undertake a relevant and informative inventory of existing signs. Wayfound then did an excellent job to translate that into a plan of action to update, remove or replace existing signs where required. The Style guide provides a great foundation for Collie to build and present a better image for visitors and a more legible sign environment.

Wayfound were responsive, flexible and easy to work with and able to respond to requests for changes, improvements or additions to the strategy and style guide.

I would not hesitate to recommend them for similar work and DBCA plan to engage Wayfound in the future.
