    Northern Grampians Tourism Signage Strategy

While the North Grampians Shire is renowned for Grampian National Park, the broader regional offerings are not well-acknowledged. The Grampians region is often associated with an ‘active nature’ holiday, particularly focusing on walking and hiking activities.

However, there is limited awareness of the diverse regional attractions and their respective merits. The ultimate objective in developing a North Grampians Tourism Signage Strategy is to facilitate the creation of consistent and pertinent signage throughout the region. The ‘Discover Northern Grampians’ branding is helping to develop greater awareness of our regional attractions. This strategy aims to capitalise on the strengths of the visitor economy, attract attention from major arterial roads, and encourage visitors to explore various parts of the region.

The existing tourism related signage in the Northern Grampians Shire Council does not enhance the visitor experience or adequately direct visitors to the areas many attractions. Council and tourism organisations along with business operators have requested that a regional strategy be developed a to address this, with some of their concerns being:

  • Lack of wayfinding and tourism signage to let visitors know the attractions, services and facilities available within Northern Grampians Shire Council and it’s towns and villages.
  • Lack of unique and distinctive signage and imagery that showcases Northern Grampian’s tourism experiences and entices visitors to stop, explore and stay longer.

Wayfound was contracted by the Northern Grampians Shire Council in 2023 to develop a comprehensive Tourism Wayfinding Strategy and Implementation Plan for the entire shire. Kim has been an experienced and excellent operator to work with as he led deep community engagement and conducted a thorough nine-day audit of all signage across the shire. The initial draft of the signage strategy and follow up community consultation identified numerous issues and opportunities for signage updates. Kim demonstrated great flexibility in accommodating Council’s many requests and amendments to the document. Council is incredibly pleased to adopt the Strategy and we look forward to implementing Kim’s recommendations. We at council have been really pleased and impressed what has been delivered by Kim.

Kim’s approach is straightforward and friendly, he happily gives guidance as required – testament to 1. His knowledge in way finding 2. Kim’s professionalism.

We look forward to implementing the recommended changes – thanks to Kim.
